TRICROAR TWITCH PROJECT

TricRoar, or Grant Manley, is a super talented and dedicated Pokemon Trading Card Game player. Pre-pandemic, he was ranked #1 in the world. In the 2022 TCG season, Grant ranked in the top 100, and took home a ton of wins at local, regional, and worldwide Pokemon championships. He currently has over 1,600 followers on Twitch, and over 3,300 on Twitter.

For this project, I wanted to bring in a couple things: The iconic Pokemon Pokeball, a balancing line to portray the difficulty and balance of the card game, the outline of the cards, and elements from the “TricRoar” name. TricRoar is a deck that Grant came up with, and took to the 2014 National Championships (here’s an article he wrote about it). For this design, I wanted to use colors from the Pokemon in that deck (Manectric and Pyroar), as well as elements of the deck and decklist in the background of the banners. When I analyzed the competitors in the Pokemon TCG content creator space, people in the community seemed to really respond to and remember the simpler logos — so I wanted to make sure the TricRoar logo was very bold and stood out at just a quick glance.
