LIGHTMACHINERY PROJECT

LightMachinery is an amazing laser and optics company based in Canada. They work in optical design, high power lasers, optical fabrication, laser systems, metrology, thin film coatings and custom machinery fabrication. So when they came to me wanting a retro-style illustration of a cowboy riding a laser shark, how could I say no?

For this staff apparel project, the goal was to include lots of little touches from their year — lots of hidden inside jokes and references within the background of the design. We went with a 60s-style font, a hand-drawn sketch style, and a late 50s-era overprint texture to really make it feel lived in.
